Elizabeth Abell Scholarship
Several scholarships are awarded each year from funds provided in memory of Mrs. Abell.

Frank W. and Gertrude Anna Abke Scholarship
Several scholarships are provided by an endowment in memory of the Abkes.

Advanced Physical Therapy Scholarship
This scholarship, endowed by the owners of Advanced Physical Therapy, P.C., JoAnne and William Jonathon, is awarded by the Krannert School of Physical Therapy to an outstanding graduate physical therapy student. The award is based upon financial need and merit and may range up to $2,500.

Miriam F. Annis Scholarship
Several scholarships are awarded each year to needy students who demonstrate good citizenship or a spirit of community service. The scholarship is targeted to sophomore or junior students, with a preference for science and math majors.

Astbury Memorial Scholarship
Created to give financial assistance to qualified student(s) majoring in Chemistry/Environmental Sciences.

Paul 'Pete' Bailey Scholarship
This scholarship will be given to an outstanding education major.

The Reverend Gale and Eleanor Barkalow Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the family of The Reverend and Mrs. Barkalow to honor their longtime friendship and support of the University. Rosedale Hills United Methodist Church nominates students from its congregation to receive this scholarship.

Colonel Robert B. Barnett and M. Louise Dragoo Barnett Scholarship
Funded with generous contributions from Colonel Robert and M. Louise Dragoo Barnett, this scholarship was created to assist deserving students from Edinburgh and Johnson County high schools.

James W. and Virginia A. Bear Scholarship
Created to give financial assistance to qualified student(s) majoring in the School of Business.

Helen G. Beeman Scholarship

Marjorie K. Begeman Scholarship
Created to give financial assistance to qualified student(s) majoring in physical therapy.

Georgia B. Blackwell Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded to students who are graduates of a Johnson County (Indiana) high school. Financial need and academic ability are considered in the selection process. Awards go to education majors and, when possible, music education majors.

Esther Haag Bowen Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded through a bequest from Esther Bowen to incoming freshmen who demonstrate a need for financial assistance.

Brooker Chemistry Scholarship
Dr. Robert Brooker, a former chemistry professor, created this scholarship to assist chemistry majors.

LeAlice Briggs Nursing Scholarship
These scholarships, awarded by the School of Nursing, are given in honor of Dr. LeAlice Briggs, dean emerita of the School of Nursing.

Helen York Brown Endowed Scholarship
Created to give financial assistance to qualified student(s) majoring in education.

T. L. Care Corporation/Mark S. and Margo C. Fritz Endowed Scholarship
Created to give financial assistance to qualified undergraduate or graduate student(s) in the Center for Aging and Community, all disciplines.

Carmony Graduate Assistantship
Funds donated by Donald F. and Mary Carmony support graduate assistantships in the English Department.

Donald F. Carmony Award for Excellence in History and Political Science
The Department of History and Political Science selects a senior majoring in history or political science for this award.

Edith B. (Hagelskamp) Carmony Award for Excellence in English
The English Department selects an outstanding senior English major to receive this award.

Mary Hiatt Carmony Editorship
This gift underwrites financial support for students who produce the University newspaper, the Reflector.

Herbert W. Cassel Philosophy Scholarship
Funded by generous contributions from Dr. Herbert W. Cassel, emeritus professor of Philosophy and Religion, and his close friends and colleagues, this scholarship is created to provide financial assistance to qualified students majoring in philosophy.

Class of 1948 Scholarship
Scholarships to academically talented students are made possible from gifts of alumni from the Class of 1948.

Class of 1950 Scholarship
Several scholarships are awarded each year to outstanding students from funds donated by the Class of 1950.

Class of 1953 and 1954 Scholarship
Scholarships made possible by gifts of alumni from the Class of 1953 and 1954 with preference given to out-of-state students.

William G. and Vee L. Clayton Scholarship
Scholarships of up to $3,000 are given to students with outstanding academic records.

Ruth E. Comer Scholarship
Several scholarships are made available to students on the basis of academic merit and financial need through a bequest from Ruth E. Comer.

Comer-Truax Scholarship

James Crawford Scholarship
This scholarship is funded through a contribution made by Mary Hiatt Carmony in honor of James Crawford.

Hobart and Esther Creighton Scholarship Fund
Several awards are given annually to students with outstanding academic records.

Dr. William W. and Mary Ann Winebrenner Dalton Music Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Mary Ann Dalton to support qualified students majoring in music education.

Chad Davidson Memorial Scholarship
Funded with generous contributions from family and friends of the late Chad Davidson, this scholarship will assist qualified students attending the University.

Davis, Merkel, Rayburn and Todd Scholarship
The School of Education awards this scholarship to an outstanding upper-level elementary education major.

Olive A. Day and Minnie L. Richey Scholarship
These honor scholarships are funded through a contribution made by Minnie Richey in honor of Olive Day.

Martha L. Dean Scholarship
This gift assists several academically talented students who demonstrate financial need.

Ralph F. Dragoo Scholarship

I. Lynd Esch Scholarship
This scholarship is given to a University of Indianapolis senior in honor of the late Dr. I. Lynd Esch, former president of the University. The scholarship comes from earnings on a fund established in Dr. Esch's name at the time of his retirement after more than 25 years of service as president.

Fifty-Year Alumni Scholarship
Four $1,000 awards are given to outstanding students through contributions from alumni who graduated 50 years ago or more. The recipients attend a meeting of this group held during Alumni Weekend.

Gordon A. and Madelyn France Family Scholarship
Several students are the beneficiaries of this scholarship made to students demonstrating financial need and strong academic performance.

Kirby Carey Fulton Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship for nursing majors was established by Joseph B. Fulton as a memorial to his wife, Kirby, who was a nurse.

I. J. Good Scholarship
Two or three scholarships are given each year in honor of the late I. J. Good, former University of Indianapolis president. These scholarships are made available through earnings on funds contributed by Mrs. Good and memorial contributions made by her friends.

Nellie A. Hanna Scholarship
Two or three scholarships are awarded each year to students in any discipline.

Hanni Family Scholarship
Created to honor Menno and Sylvia Hanni and the entire Hanni family, this scholarship will provide financial assistance to qualified students(s).

Heitger Scholarship
Several scholarships are awarded through a bequest from Maxine Heitger, friend of the University.

Marvin and Sylvia Henricks Scholarship
Awards of up to $1,000 are made to entering freshmen who plan to major in the social sciences and who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance.

Herbert Dale and Elnora Freshly Hiatt Scholarship
Two or three scholarships are awarded to students demonstrating strong academic performance in high school or college.

Linden E. and Violet T. Hiatt Scholarship
Financial support given to sophomore student in need.

Lloyd and Treva Hiatt 'Elementary Education' Scholarship

Luther and Elnora Hiatt Family Award for Excellence in Philosophy and Religion
The Philosophy and Religion Department selects an outstanding senior student to receive this award.

Paul F. and Jean Hirst Scholarship
Several scholarships are made available to students on the basis of academic merit and financial need through a bequest from the Hirsts.

Raymond Houk Scholarship

Dr. George L. Humbarger Scholarship

Robert C. and LaVern Hunt Scholarship
An endowment fund established by Robert C. Hunt, chairman of Huber, Hunt, and Nichols, Inc., and trustee emeritus of the University of Indianapolis, supports this scholarship.

Lester and Lucy Irons Scholarship
Pre-law majors receive preference in receiving these scholarships. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need.

Julius C. Shrigley and Winifred Irene (Shrigley) Jones Scholarship
One or two awards are given to academically talented students. Preference is given to teaching majors of English, French, or other modern languages.

Kiesel Memorial Scholarship
Two or three awards are given to students demonstrating strong academic performance in high school or college.

Mary Helen Kraft Keim Scholarship
Scholarships from this endowment fund are offered to outstanding students.

Kathryn R. and Robert W. Koenig Family Scholarship
These scholarships are made available through earnings on funds contributed by Koenig family members and friends. Preference will be given to academically qualified students who are pursuing careers in Christian ministry, education, music, nursing, and law.

Krannert School of Physical Therapy Scholarship
The Krannert School of Physical Therapy awards one scholarship to an outstanding graduate physical therapy student and a second award to a student in the physical therapist assistant program. The awards are based on financial need and merit.

James P. Lamberson Memorial Scholarship
The University's Music Department awards these scholarships to deserving music students.

Phylis Lan Lin Scholarship in Social Work
The faculty annually selects students to receive this award, an endowment created by Dr. Phylis Lan Lin. Recipients are selected on the basis of community service, leadership in the community, grade point average, or other forms of demonstrated scholarship.

Helen J. and J. Louis Martens Scholarship

Orvall G. and Dorothy McCleary Scholarship
Preference for this award is given to one or two students majoring in religion or displaying an orientation toward service to others.

Frank M. McHale Scholarship
Graduates of Logansport or other Cass County (Indiana) high schools are eligible for this award.

Bishop and Mrs. Paul W. Milhouse Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Bishop and Mrs. Milhouse in memory of their parents.

Andrew and Joan Miller Endowed Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded to students who maintain satisfactory achievement levels. This scholarship was established by Zane G. and Frances Todd.

Jerry Ann Motley Scholarship
Several scholarships are awarded to outstanding seniors majoring in biology.

Arthur H. and Nettie Nye Scholarship
At least two scholarships are awarded each year from earnings on a fund contributed by Mr. and Mrs. Nye. Preference in making the awards is given to members of the First United Methodist Church of Marion (Indiana) and then to Marion High School graduates. These scholarships are open only to students majoring in nursing who are Grant County residents.

C. S. Ober Scholarships in Business
Several awards are given to academically talented students. Preference is given to business students.

Sylvia Hardesty Parks Scholarship
Several awards are given to outstanding students in memory of the donor.

Verna W. Percifield Education Fund
Mrs. Percifield provided for several scholarships to needy students through her bequest to the University. These scholarships are awarded to students who have an interest in the human services field.

Joan V. Persell Scholarships
The School of Business selects recipients for this scholarship, which honors Joan V. Persell, longtime director of Extended Programs and educational advisor for the American Institute of Banking, Inc.

Clara Proctor Reynolds Scholarship
These awards are restricted to residents of Daviess County (Indiana), who demonstrate financial need and outstanding academic performance.

Dr. Mildred M. Reynolds '52 Scholarship
Scholarship(s) is awarded to students based on financial need with preference given to students majoring in social work.

Thomas R. Richter Memorial Scholarship
Full-time pre-ministerial students who will serve the United Methodist Church are eligible to apply for the scholarship, which was established by Dr. Arthur Richter in memory of his son. The recipient must intend to enroll at a United Methodist seminary upon graduation from the University of Indianapolis and must be recommended by the Philosophy and Religion Department. Preference is given to students with financial need. Four scholarships of $1,000 are awarded.

George B. Riley Scholarship
Two to three scholarships are given to students each year on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

M. Helen Roberts Scholarship
Through a bequest from Mrs. Roberts, several scholarships are provided to outstanding students, with preference being given to students majoring in music education.

Helen E. Rusk Scholarship
Scholarship(s) is awarded to students majoring in elementary education, ranked in the top 25% of their class. Preference will be given to freshman from St. Joseph County.

Marjorie R. and Marie Schoch Scholarship
Scholarship is awarded to junior or seniors who maintain a 3.2 GPA with preference given to students majoring in humanities.

School of Business Faculty Scholarships
Several scholarships of $500 each are awarded to entering freshmen each year by the School of Business.

Richard E. Schrier Student Athlete Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded for graduate work on basis of undergraduate academic achievement, performance in varsity athletics, and graduate goals.

Robert A. and June K. Simon Scholarship
Merit scholarships are awarded from earnings on funds contributed by Robert A. Simon. Preference is given to students who are members of Southport Presbyterian Church of Southport (Indiana). Students must be graduates of Perry Meridian, Southport, or Center Grove high schools to be eligible for this award.

Herbert W. and Marjorie Anson Smith Special Academic Scholarship
Education majors who have graduated from Southport and Perry Meridian High Schools may receive these funds donated by Herbert and Marjorie Smith.

Gladys S. Swearingen Scholarship
One or two scholarships are given each year to students on the basis of academic and financial merit.

Donald W. and Nita Tanselle Scholarships
Two to three scholarships are awarded to students on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

Marysnow Todd Scholarship
A scholarship from an endowment fund established by Dr. Zane G. Todd and friends in honor of his wife, Mrs. Marysnow Todd.

University of Indianapolis Jazz Scholarship
Funded by the generous donations of a friend of the University, this scholarship was established to assist those students who are majoring in music with a concentration in jazz.

Jeanne Wade Watkins Scholarship
Michael J. Watkins, graduate and trustee of the University, established this scholarship in tribute to his wife, Jeanne Wade Watkins. This scholarship, for graduates of high schools on the south side of Greater Indianapolis, is targeted to students who are pursuing degrees in education, preferably elementary education.

Dr. Sibyl Weaver Memorial Scholarship
Several awards are given to students showing high academic performance and financial need.

Dr. James A. Weber Fund
Through a bequest from Dr. Weber, a former professor of theology, several scholarships are awarded. Preference in selection is given to a pre-theology major.

Webster Environmental Science Scholarship

Lawrence G. D. and Ruth Wertz Scholarship
Several scholarships are awarded to students based on academic merit and financial need.

Susanna Wesley Scholarship

Earl B. and Marie C. Whitecotton Scholarship
Several scholarships are provided on the basis of academic and financial merit. Descendants of the donors are given preference over other recipients.

Blaine H. Wiseman Scholarship
Two to three scholarships are awarded from this fund in honor of the donor to a student demonstrating superior academic achievement.

Dr. Randall M. and Julia M. Wolfe Scholarship
Through a bequest from Ms. Wolfe, daughter of former University president I. J. Good, several scholarships are awarded.

Effie Topping Gott

Michael Molchan Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to a student who embodies the spirit of Michael Molchan's applied method of teaching by demonstrating an interest in the applied aspects of marketing and/or entrepreneurship.

Harvey M. and Henrietta L. Rider Showalter Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is established in loving memory of Harvey and Henrietta Showalter, recognizing their contribution to the University of Indianapolis and everything they stood for. This scholarship fund is created to give financial assistance to qualified students majoring in music, history, art, or education.

Church-Named Scholarships

Endowment funds that have been contributed under the Church-Named Scholarship Program generate several scholarships for deserving United Methodist students. Under this plan, the church agrees to establish an endowment fund that will be built, usually over a period of years, to a total of $25,000. The church may then recommend students from the congregation for the scholarships generated from this fund. If recipients are not recommended by the church, the University selects another United Methodist student to receive the scholarship.
