John Gleason Davis grew up in Salem, Indiana, and graduated in 1968. He was a member of first Christian Church in Salem and was actively involved until leaving for college in the fall of 1968. John loved sports, participating in baseball and basketball over the years, but his lifelong passion was golf. He started playing golf while quite young and worked with the greenskeeper at Western Hills golf course. His love for the game led to a spot on the high school golf team and later to a golf scholarship at Indiana Central College. He was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He was Beta Theta secretary and vice president; Phi Beta Lambda vice president; SAM vice president and president; C Club; Honor Roll consistently; three- year letterman on golf team, Most Improved Golfer Award (1970), Medalist, Bluffton Invitational Medalist (1970); Conference Golf Champs (1969); All Conference, golf, Indiana Collegiate Conference (1971); Outstanding Athletes of America (1971, 1972); Kelso Reid Mental Attitude Award. Empl. Coll.; Society for Advancement of Management, vice president and president; Business Club Speaker (1970). Following his graduation, he continued to follow and support the team right up until his illness and death in 2005. After college, John assumed his first job in accounting at Indiana National Bank. He also worked for Danners, Inc., Bagley, Hoage & Harrison CPA firm, and Hall and House lumber company as controller and secretary for 16 years. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Indiana CPA Society, and Greenwood Christian Church. "John's being was one of kindness, caring and generosity, shown to be true by the many friends he had. His life was a beautiful example of putting others first, of warmth, and of loyalty-loyalty to his family, his faith in God, his friends, his job, and of course to his golf game," states John's wife, Judy.
