Lloyd grew up in Jay County, Indiana, youngest of 11 children, eight of whom graduated from Indiana Central College (U of I). After graduating in 1940 from I.C.C., he furthered his education through graduate study at Butler University and Indiana University. Lloyd served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. Lloyd taught at Decatur Central High School and served as Principal at Monrovia Schools and Martinsville Junior High School. He became the first Principal of Lawrence Township's Belzer Junior High School in 1963 and then was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Lawrence Township Schools, retiring in 1979. He was an active member of Castleton United Methodist Church for over 40 years and a 50-year member of Monrovia Masonic Lodge. Lloyd was named Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Indianapolis in 1985.
