Dean Mitchell Ransburg

Dean was born in Auburn, Indiana. He graduated from Ft. Wayne North High School in 1950 and Indiana Central College in 1954. While at Indiana Central College, he played football on the undefeated Greyhound team in 1953 and still holds the record for the most interceptions returned for a touchdown in one game. He also served as a student manager for the undefeated 1953 Greyhound Baseball team. Both teams were Hoosier College Conference Champions. He served as a Specialist 3 with the US Army Security Agency during the Korean War from 1954-1956 stationed in Okinawa, Japan. In 1957, he started the first radio station "WICR" at Indiana Central College. From 1958 to 1963, he was the Assistant Director of the "Evening Division" of admissions at the University of Indianapolis and from 1963 to 1973, Director of Alumni Relations. He also worked as Public Address Announcer for UIndy Basketball and Football games. In 1971, he was recognized by UIndy as an Honorary Alumnus. From 1971 to 1978, he was the statewide Director of Student Services for Ivy Tech College which during that time he was named Colonel of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonel. He retired in 1992 from Heritage Printing and Stephens Office Supplies in Brown County after 15 years as owner and operator. He was a member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church. He was inducted into the University of Indianapolis Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001. He believed in helping others and enjoyed reading historical novels.
